Abstract

This work presents an introduction to the main criteria that characterize the metrizability of topological spaces, highlighting the relevance of separation axioms and countable bases in determining when a topology can be induced by a metric. Classical results, examples and applications are presented, as well as sufficient conditions for the metrizability of more general spaces.
