Abstract

Unregulated economic growth has caused environmental degradation, air and water pollution, and climate change, affecting the quality of life and economic activities. This monograph analyzes ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) criteria as a tool to balance socioeconomic and environmental development, examining whether these mechanisms can achieve constitutional objectives. The research explores the development of environmental protection mechanisms and corporate behavior, with a focus on credit cooperatives. An exploratory, descriptive, bibliographic, and documentary approach is used, with consultations of doctrines, articles, international documents, and legislation, adopting the deductive method.
