The presumptive diagnosis of bovine tuberculosis is based on the analysis of the immune response confronting micobacterial antigens. The objective of this experimental simulation of infection by Mycobacterium bovis and Mycobacterium avium in bovines was to assist the immune response from cervical comparative test and the evolution of the specific production of gamma-interferon, besides identifying the interference of unspecified reactions by M. avium in the tests results. According to the results obtained it was possible to conclude that the experimental animals started a response of delayed hypersensitivity against the inactivated bacilli and that both diagnostic tests for bovine tuberculosis were efficent while identifying the animals sensitized with M. bovis and in the discrimination of the reactions generated by the inoculation of bovines with M. avium. To investigate Mycobacterium bovis infection in beef cattle from different origins in Mato Grosso do Sul State, a retrospective study was carried out considering infected herds by the finding of suggestive lesions at carcass inspection in five different slaughterhouses. The suggestive tuberculous lesions were responsible for 65 condemnations in 483.047 animals (0,013%). The macroscopic lesions were observed in the thorax (49,21%), carcass (33,33%), head (11,11%) and abdomen (6,35%). The histopathological diagnosis demonstrated that 74,6% of the finding lesions were granuloma. The tuberculous carcasses were from 45 different herds, from within 3 of them could be investigated by cervical comparative test (CCT), but no positive animals were observed. The absence of reagent animals in the infected herds may reflect the low prevalence observed in beef cattle in Brazil.
