Abstract

Water loss in water distribution systems are problems in Brasil. According data from SNIS, the country spents 37.4% of their billing on water losses. In view of the high rate of national losses, this work have the objective of propose a tool to calibrate models developed in Epanet for quantify and locate leakage zones in real time. In this work, genetic algorithms techniches were used to perform the calibration, in order to find the optimal values for the physical parameters used in leakage calculations. The work also propose to perform simulations using local leakage exponents, instead of an exponent for the entire network. The calibrations were performed in three areas of Campo Grande, Brazil. The results showed levels of leakage in the order of 33.52% to 79%. Furthermore, we proposed a new equation for the distribution of leaks along the stretch of pipe as a substitute for the method of node located estimation. The proposed equation has the advantage of allowing a better location in the region with higher rates of losses. This wor was part of a research project funded by FINEP and created a free software called Epanet Calibrator. Discussions are made on the methodology and findings.
