FATORES QUE INFLUENCIAM O DESMAME PRECOCE DURANTE O PUERPÉRIO:UMA REVISÃO INTEGRATIVA

Abstract

The aim of this study was to identify the factors that influence early weaning during the puerperium. Method: This is an integrative literature review conducted with eight articles found in the Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), the National Library of Medicine (PubMed), and the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO) databases, between July and November 2025. The descriptors established for the search were the following three descriptors combined with Boolean operators: “breastfeeding” OR “exclusive breastfeeding” AND “weaning” OR “early weaning” AND “postpartum period” OR “puerperium.” Data were analyzed using content analysis techniques. Conclusion: To ensure the effectiveness of exclusive breastfeeding, it is necessary to understand the main factors that lead to early weaning during the puerperium, including social, cultural, and structural aspects that shape the maternal experience. Understanding these factors helps guide the development of actions aimed at promoting, protecting, and supporting breastfeeding, as well as enabling early identification of obstacles that directly affect the quality of care provided to more vulnerable families who are at greater risk of discontinuing breastfeeding prematurely.
