Abstract
This course conclusion paper (TCC) is the result of research carried out during the Portuguese Language/English Language course at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul, on the Aquidauana-MS Campus. The aim of this work is to describe the experiences of a mother of deaf people living in the municipality of Aquidauana, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. In this work, the experiences lived by Aunt “Cecilia” during the schooling of her deaf children were reported, especially the implications encountered during their schooling, during the period of the Covid-19 Pandemic in the years 2020 to 2021. My interest in this subject arose during the course in the classes of two subjects included in the curriculum of the Letters Course at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul - UFMS, the “Study of Libras” and the “Portuguese Language for the Deaf”. As well as having two cousins in my family, one with hearing loss (partial hearing loss) and the other deaf (total hearing loss). During the pandemic, I heard from my aunt several critical situations regarding her children's schooling. Situations that often involve embarrassment and stress for her and her children. With this in mind, we decided to carry out this research in a qualitative way, with accounts of this mother's experiences, investigating from an interview with a semi-structured script. Based on the reports, we found strong evidence of shortcomings in the specialized educational care adopted in the schooling of deaf and hearing-impaired people, especially during the pandemic period.
