Abstract: | The construction industry in Brazil and worldwide is one of the main pillars of a nation's economy and social development, with its growth being clearly evident year after year. However, alongside this growth, there is a constant increase in the waste generated at each stage of the construction process. Specifically, in terms of construction-related waste, wood is a material present in all project phases, from the initial phase, with the installation of layout markers, to the intermediate phase, involving the creation of molds for shaping structural elements, and finally to the stage of assembling roofing components. This study investigated the disposal practices for solid wood waste in construction, focusing specifically on the city of Campo Grande–MS. Data collection involved site visits to three different types of construction projects: low-income housing, medium-sized residential buildings, and high-standard buildings. A questionnaire with eight objective questions was administered to workers and the technical supervisors of each construction site. The information collected was organized into tables and pie charts to facilitate understanding. The study's findings indicate that, in small-scale projects, especially in low-income housing, wood reuse is common, as these types of buildings often have limited budgets for material replacement. Conversely, in medium and large-scale projects, due to higher purchasing power, easier material renewal, and pressures to meet project timelines, wood is typically discarded after one or two uses. In these projects, the repeated practice of reuse is not established. |
