Fazer a vida com as mãos: Trabalho, perspectiva e viveres de manicures de Campo Grande/MS

Abstract

The pursuit of aesthetic procedures has driven the growth of the beauty market within capitalism, and manicurists play a decisive role in these processes. Therefore, analyzing the forms and conditions of work for manicurists working in beauty salons from the perspective and experiences of the professionals is crucial for understanding the daily life that constitutes being a manicurist and their social role. Thus, this research aims to analyze the work of a group of manicurists in Campo Grande/MS, based on the social relationships that permeate the work and personal lives of women who make a living doing nails. Through semi-structured interviews, participant ethnography, bibliographic research, and Brazilian legislation, the study brings sociological and anthropological theories closer to the experiences narrated by the interlocutors, highlighting the functions and characteristics of the trade in a process of buying and selling a service that is permeated by social relationships.
