MATERNIDADE EM CÁRCERE À LUZ DAS REGRAS DE BANGKOK: ESTUDO REALIZADO NO ESTABELECIMENTO PENAL IRMÃ IRMA ZORZI

Abstract

The present work seeks to carry out an analysis of the application of the Bangkok Rules in the Sister Irma Zorzi Penal Establishment. Due to the high growth in female incarceration and the construction of prisons adopting an androcentric vision, the female reality in prison desserves attention. The Bangkok Rules, the first international framework on women in prison, propose a different look at the specificities of gender in female incarceration, including motherhood. The objective of the research is to analyze whether at the Irmã Irma Zorzi Penal Establishment there is effective compliance, in relation to pregnant women, women with children and breastfeeding women, of rules numbered 48, 49, 50, 51 and 52 of Bangkok. Research on this topic becomes crucial when we consider the human rights violations faced by women who are mothers, and their children. The grim scenario of prisons, with their unsanitary and precarious conditions, has a significant negative impact on the integral development of children. Thus, the importance of investigating this issue is clear, given its relevance to the well-being of these vulnerable families. For this, the method used is deductive, using bibliographical, documentar and empirical research as a technique by conducting an interview with a prison employee. In the final considerations, it was found that the Irmã Irma Zorzi Penal Establishment complies with the number rules that deal with pregnant women, those with children and breastfeeding women in prison, making the prison environment suitable for the development and well-being of the mother and child. child.
