AVALIAÇÃO DA PERCEPÇÃO DE QUALIDADE DE VIDA DE MULHERES COM ESCLEROSE MÚLTIPLA COM OU SEM SINTOMAS URINÁRIOS.

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Introduction: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, autoimmune and inflammatory disease that causes damage to the white matter of the central nervous system (CNS). Some patients develop some dysfunction in the lower urinary tract (UTI), which can influence quality of life (QoL). Methodology: This study aims to evaluate QoL in women with MS who have or do not have lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). This is a cross-sectional study carried out with twenty women divided into two groups: G1 (without LUTS) and G2 (with LUTS). The following instruments were used: Expanded Disability Status Scale in Multiple Sclerosis – EDSS to assess the degree of MS impairment, the Overactive Bladder Assessment Questionnaire OAB - V8 and the SF-36 Questionnaire (Short-Form Health Survey) to analyze the QoL. The study considered the statistical value p<0.05. Results: It was observed that the group with LUTS has a worse QoL score for the variables: pain (p. 0.047), mental health (p=0.043) and that there is a significant and inversely proportional correlation with the OAB-V8 results. It is concluded that the group with LUTS tends to have a lower QoL than the group without LUTS, especially when it comes to pain and mental health.
