PANORAMA GERAL DO ACESSO E PERMANÊNCIA FEMININA NO CURSO DE CIÊNCIAS CONTÁBEIS DA UFMS

Abstract

The objective is to identify the levels of female participation in the Accounting Sciences course at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS), involving the campuses of Campo Grande, Pantanal, Nova Andradina, and Três Lagoas between the period of 2011 to 2022. Methodologically, it is a descriptive research with a quantitative approach, using documentary research obtained through secondary documents from the UFMS system. The target population of the research includes incoming, enrolled, and graduated students of the Accounting Sciences course at UFMS in all campuses where the course is offered until the year 2022. The information was obtained, organized, and analyzed using Excel. The results demonstrate that, during the analyzed period, there is a predominance of male students compared to female students at UFMS. However, in some campuses, women already represent the majority of incoming students. In terms of graduates, women represent 52% of the total. Therefore, it is evident that despite the challenges women face, they have achieved greater success in obtaining a higher education in accounting at UFMS. It is noteworthy that female retention in the accounting sciences course has been more promising compared to male retention, with a more significant dropout rate for males. With the identification of the institutional panorama, this research empirically contributes to the need for policies to support all students, to understand their reality, and to provide a higher level of retention for both genders.
