Graduandos de Enfermagem e as Emoções em Relação à Disciplina de Enfermagem Perioperatória

Abstract

The surgical center (SC) is a complex sector of the hospital area due to the performance of anesthetic and surgical procedures, therefore, specific. Fear and anxiety before the internship are feelings reported by students as they consider the CC an unknown and specialized environment. Fear of the unknown is common to human beings, especially when they have little information about a fact. The students' contact with an unknown situation becomes a triggering factor for tension and anxiety. This study aimed to identify the emotions of nursing students regarding the Perioperative Nursing discipline. This is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach. The study population consisted of undergraduate Nursing students at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul Foundation, Campus Coxim, regularly enrolled in the Compulsory Internship in Health Services Networks I and II subjects. Sampling was non-probabilistic and for convenience, as it predicted the participation of the total population. The inclusion criterion was to be regularly enrolled in the aforementioned disciplines and participants with incomplete data, participants who expressed a desire to abandon the study, participants who showed difficulties in understanding the research questions were excluded. The students formalized their acceptance of participation in the study by signing the Free and Informed Consent Term. Data collection took place during the month of May 2022 and the participants answered two instruments, one of which consisted of characterization questions with the following variables: age, gender, semester of the course, participation in a research or extension group, before attending the Perioperative Nursing discipline had some previous experience in the area. And the second instrument used evaluated the students' emotions regarding the Perioperative Nursing discipline, through three closed questions that corresponded to the following moments: before the beginning of the discipline, during the theoretical classes and during the internship. Each question had ten emotions, five positive and five negative, and for each emotion, the student scored values from 1 to 5, with 1 being the most intense and 5 being the least intense. The research participants were sent a link to access the electronic questionnaire (Google Forms) through a social instant messaging network, with immediate opening of the TCLE, its completion being a mandatory condition for opening the following pages. Ethical aspects were respected, according to Resolution nº 466/2012 of the National Health Council. The project was approved by the reference Ethics Committee, opinion nº 5.322.092 and CAAE: 56763822.9.0000.0021. Of the total of 27 study participants, most were aged between 20 and 29 years (n=24; 88.9%) and female (n=23; 85.2%) and (n=23; 85 .2%) of students were enrolled in the 9th semester. Regarding participation in research or extension groups, most (n=20; 74.1%) answered yes. And as for previous experience in the area (n=22; 81.5%) they said no. Among the positive emotions, curiosity and interest were emotions that showed a higher degree of intensity in the three phases of the discipline. The other positive emotions showed an increase after the discipline. Tranquility was the positive emotion that did not change. Regarding negative emotions, all of them, except aversion, decreased during the theoretical classes and the internship. For undergraduates, the CC is a sector of a lot of learning, but also of great difficulties that can cause discomfort. Thus, the experiences lived by students during the course of the course, whether positive or negative, bring them closer to the care practice and to what is carried out in this unit.
