A (des)construção das (des)ordens: poder e violência em Três Lagoas-MT (1915-1945)

Abstract

It is a history of the sertão, not as a geography of the landscape, but a geography and human history in the rural world of Três Lagoas, in southern Mato Grosso, a state in which society, until well into the 20th century, was predominantly rural and the economy remains especially rural, despite the advance of capitalism in the countryside having profoundly changed the agricultural enterprise, today quite different from what the farms were. In this book, it is clear that, even in this predominantly rural world, the town (and later the city) played a very important role in determining formal politics — which is manifested in the press tribunes, city hall, city hall — and the politics of the daily life, resistance and experience. The relationship with the land determined the formation of this society not only in the rural area, but also in the appropriation of the urban. For many (the rioters), not having land and, for some (the orderers), holding the domain of a lot of land is what determined the place that these subjects started to occupy in the relations of power, production and class.
