Nouveau Look: ativismo feminista, Art Nouveau e lambes

Abstract

This research aimed to study the possible dialogues between wheatpaste posters and feminist activism, and from this, a series of paintings was created that, in addition to being works of art in themselves, were also transformed into wheatpaste posters spread throughout the city of Campo Grande. The objective of the series was, above all, to explore and subvert the Art Nouveau style, especially based on the artists Alfons Mucha and Gerda Wegener. The movement is well known for its representation of women, mostly idealized images, obeying standards of beauty and heteronormativity. The work sought to diversify, making the representation of female bodies more inclusive; using the aesthetics of the movement, the approach intended to promote a visual discussion about aesthetic and behavioral norms still demanded of women today. Wheatpaste posters, as a form of urban intervention, were explored as a tool for visibility, seeking to create a space of diversity.
