A VALORIZAÇÃO DA LÍNGUA MATERNA DOS POVOS INDÍGENAS GUARANÍ/KAIOWÁ DA RESERVA INDÍGENA DE SASSORÓ

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the valorization of the mother tongue of the Guarani Kaiowá indigenous people of the Sassoró indigenous reserve in Tacuru, Mato Grosso do Sul, following the approval of Law No. 848/2010. Tacuru is home to two indigenous reserves: the Sassoró Village and the Jaguapiré Village, both inhabited by the Guarani Kaiowá ethnic group. The municipality was the second in Brazil to adopt the mother tongue as a second official language. In this work, we reflect on the results and impacts of the co-officialization of the Guarani language in the Sassoró Village. To analyze the impact of the co-officialization of the indigenous language in the Sassoró Village, especially in the area of ​​indigenous education, the research, with a qualitative approach, used as techniques the documentary analysis of Municipal Law No. 848/2010 and a semi-structured interview with the teacher and indigenous leader Ezaul Martins, former councilman and author of the project for the co-officialization of the Guarani language in Tacuru. The interpretative analysis of the data sought to understand the political and educational process of valuing the Mother Tongue and its impact on local bilingual practices.The results of the co-officialization of the Guarani language point to the valuing of the mother tongue through the expansion of indigenous and/or bilingual teachers working in indigenous schools and through the promotion of literacy in two languages: Portuguese and Guarani. However, efforts must be continued so that educational public policies can be effectively implemented with budgetary and human resources worthy of what is advocated by the 1988 Federal Constitution.
