Abstract

This article analyzes the use of cognitive verbs as a subjectivity resource in journalistic discourse. The practice of inserting terms such as "I think", "I think", "I believe", "I imagine", "I believe" and "I suppose" in parentheses allows the journalist to express personal opinions without directly compromising the impartiality of the text. The research aims to investigate how these verbs act as argumentative strategies, creating a temporary departure from the central theme, while enriching the narrative with subjective reflections and interpretations. In addition to presenting practical examples, the article discusses the impact of parenthetization on the construction of the relationship between the journalist and the reader, highlighting how language is used to balance neutrality and opinion in a context of growing demand for transparency and informative engagement.
