Abstract

This paper addresses the re-signification of Joan of Arc, exploring her trajectory from "witch" to "saint" in the context of the Catholic Church. Initially judged and executed as a heretic, Joan of Arc was re-evaluated and canonized centuries later, exalted as a symbol of faith and patriotism. The study analyzes the historical, social, and religious factors that contributed to this transformation of her image, investigating inquisitorial documents and the canonization process. The research reveals how religious and political interpretations shaped Joan of Arc's figure over time, reflecting changes in the values of both the Church and society.
