Abstract

When breastfeeding cannot be performed at the mother's breast, milk banks serve as support for the newborn's diet. Breast milk is extremely important for the baby's development and protection against various diseases as it is composed of several essential nutrients for preterm newborns (PTNB). This study aims to analyze the importance of breastfeeding in the baby's development, the benefits for the mother's health and to know and understand the aspects related to the human milk bank (HMB), carrying out a historical review and publicizing the aspects related to the Bank of Human Milk. Methodology: To carry out this study, we opted for a bibliographic review of literature conducted through scientific productions. The review determines current knowledge on a specific topic, as it is conducted in order to identify, analyze and synthesize results from independent studies on the same subject. Results: Breastfeeding corresponds to one of the most important stages in a woman's reproductive process and its practice offers benefits for both the mother and the newborn (NB). Conclusion: breastfeeding (BF) is a food of utmost importance for the survival of preterm newborns, as it is the only one that offers adequate nutrients, which cannot be found in any other industrialized milk.
