With recent research and discoveries in psychology and pedagogy, there has been a change in the parental model used in children's education. The objectives of this study were to contextualize the historical panorama related to the parenting models adopted by families and their influences on the development and education of children; describe the assumptions related to positive parenting and the effects produced on children's education and; present the role and actions of nurses as educators focused on developing positive parenting among the families they care for. The method used was a narrative literature review and the data sources were publications found on Google Scholar and Capes journals, with seven thousand five hundred and twenty articles found during the search, of which only forty-six articles were used. The results of the study show the inadequacy of old parenting in the education and development of children, pointing to the need for a new parental model, called positive parenting, which presents very positive results for the formation of human beings. The study highlights the relevance of the nurse's role as a health educator focused on positive parenting. In conclusion, it was evident that the positive parenting educational approach strategy, in addition to promoting the healthy development of children, can prevent and intervene in psychopathologies resulting from harmful parental practice.-
