Abstract

Rafael Rossi, in this book, presents a debate on the critical teaching of Geography and establishes a connection between questions of Method that involve this science and its confrontation or importance in the practice of teaching Geography. Thus, Geographical Thinking and, specifically, the Methodology of Geography, meet the Methodology of Teaching Geography and, in a broader spectrum, with the idea of ​​Libertarian and Critical Education. This work, therefore, expresses concern with the broader training of the Geography Teacher, taking him as an intellectual who must use the tools of Knowledge to situate himself in the teaching practice, unveiling it and demonstrating that this practice should be, also, philosophical practice, in the deepest sense of the term. Discussing the teaching of geography should be an undertaking that is predisposed to reflect on the links between this social dimension and education. Even more: it is, in fact, about apprehending and explaining the movement that articulates and synthesizes geography, education and the totality that conforms the social reality in which we live and help to produce. Contributing to a teaching of geography that values ​​the critical transmission of classical knowledge in the sciences (social, nature and exact), arts and philosophy, having as a parameter the defense of the human being, is a humanly emancipatory undertaking.
