ABSTRACT - The purpose of this dissertation is to reflect on the place occupied by the Other in the journalistic narrative, based on the contributions of authors who discuss culture. The problem of the research object - the place of the Other in the journalistic narrative - is realized with the contribution of Geertz (1997, 2013), Wagner (2012), Bhabha (1998), Hall (1997, 2003a, 2003b), Duschatzky And Skliar (2011), Santos and Meneses (2010), Silva (2013, 2014), Medina (2003, 2006, 2008), Larrosa and Skliar (2011), Traquina (2008). In the perspective of this work, the Other is the subalternized subject; The journalistic narrative under which I dwell is the one based on the industrial revolution, which communes with the hegemonic socioeconomic model, where time is linear, scarce and urgent, valid knowledge is scientific and where objectivity translates into the ideal Be pursued by journalists. The methodological option to produce a reflection on the place of the Other in the journalistic narrative was to conduct this study not by means of a vehicle, format or genre in specific, but from the essential tools in making journalistic: agenda, sources and interview. In this direction, journalistic subjects were selected and grafted in the dissertation as an example of densification of the abyssal logic and the emptying or silencing of the Other in the narratives, as well as creative possibilities of denser and more complex narratives. Without pretension to indicate models and standardize standards, at the end of the course it is possible to conclude that there are interesting approximations between culture and journalism, as well as between the work of the ethnographer and the journalist, experiences that can be very enriching if we can start from the perspective of the Other, in an attitude of listening and observation to then seek meanings.
