Cultura histórica e questão nacional na Primeira República: o sentido da formação entre o ensaio e os escritos educacionais de Manoel Bomfim. (1897-1930)

Abstract

Esta tese busca refletir sobre o pensamento histórico de Manoel Bomfim, situando-o em meio à dinâmica social de seu tempo. Ao longo da pesquisa buscou-se contextualizar o pensamento do autor através de uma analise horizontalizada de sua produção intelectual, que se configura como múltipla e diversificada, tendo como fio condutor analítico a busca da compreensão da forma como em seus textos, tanto os voltados para a educação quanto nos ensaios históricos pensou-se um projeto de escrita da história nacional que busca colocar sob outras bases a compreensão sobre a formação nacional. Dessa forma, buscamos demonstrar como a questão nacional e os debates sobre a educação nacional fundem-se no pensamento do autor, dando certa identidade que caracteriza o seu pensamento histórico que surge nas primeiras décadas do século XX como um contra discurso ao discurso histórico dominante produzido e divulgado pelo IHGB. Neste sentido, seus textos, sobretudo, seus ensaios históricos da década de vinte dialogam criticamente com o projeto de escrita da história do Brasil produzido pelos institutos, colocando-se como uma antítese dessa cultura historiográfica e apontando para novas possibilidades de produção de sentido a partir de um dialogo com outros elementos e símbolos, até certo ponto marginalizados, mas disponíveis na cultura histórica do período. Metodologicamente buscamos interpretar uma grande parte de seus escritos, produzidos em lugares e tempos diferentes a partir de uma questão problema que era entender: como ele pensou a formação nacional e quais os agentes deste processo? A resposta a essa indagação é o elemento que confere identidade analítica para essa tese.

ABSTRACT - This thesis reflects on the historical thinking of Manoel Bomfim, placing him in the social dynamics of its time. Along the research sought to contextualize the thinking of the author through a horizontal analysis of intellectual production, which is configured as multiple and diverse, having as leitmotiv the pursuit of analytical understanding of the way in his texts, both focused on education and in the historic trials it was thought a national history writing project that seeks to put under other bases the understanding of national training. In this way, we seek to demonstrate how the national question and the discussions on the national education merge in the mind of the author, giving a certain identity that characterises his thinking history that emerges in the first decades of the twentieth century as a historic speech against dominant produced and disseminated by the IHGB. In this sense, his writings, especially his essays of the twenty dialogue critically with the project of writing the history of Brazil produced by institutes, placing itself as an antithesis of this historiographical culture and pointing to new possibilities of production of sense from a dialogue with other elements and symbols, to some extent marginalized, but available on the historical culture of the period. Methodologically seek to interpret a great part of his writings, produced in different times and places from a question problem was understanding: how he thought the national training and the staff of this process? The answer to that question is the element that gives analytical identity for this thesis.
