Abstract

This work addresses the historical and conceptual aspects of cybercrimes, as well as some general notions of cybercrime and a brief explanation of current Brazilian laws dealing with the subject. Its aim is to highlight the importance of internet access as a means of expanding the boundaries of communication, while simultaneously presenting new possibilities for crime, now virtual or digital. A study was conducted on virtual crimes, given that technology advances daily to facilitate our daily lives, but at the same time, criminals use this medium to commit crimes, thus hindering the pursuit of the perpetrator. Therefore, it is a current and extremely relevant topic for Criminal Law. Furthermore, the focus is a more in-depth study of the exercise of the right to freedom of expression, the evolution of the Internet, and a list of concepts regarding cybercrimes was presented in order to determine the limits to the exercise of this right on the internet, as well as the repercussions of attacks on an individual's honor and image through this global means of communication.
