Abstract: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic condition characterized by insulin resistance and/or pancreatic insufficiency in insulin production, resulting in persistent hyperglycemia. Treatment involves the use of oral hypoglycemic agents and/or insulin therapy, combined with healthy lifestyle habits such as a balanced diet and regular physical activity. Therapeutic adherence is essential for glycemic control and the prevention of complications such as nephropathy, retinopathy, neuropathy, and cardiovascular diseases. In this context, assessing therapeutic behavior and metabolic control becomes crucial for effective care. This study aimed to characterize the clinical profile of individuals with type 2 diabetes, identify the level of adherence to pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment, and analyze therapeutic efficacy through glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) values. This is a descriptive and exploratory study conducted through interviews and secondary data analysis of users with type 2 diabetes treated at a Basic Health Unit in Campo Grande/MS. The results indicated a predominance of males (62.5%) with a mean age of 63 years, and a higher prevalence of associated hypertension (68.7%) and overweight/obesity (56.2%). It was found that 43.7% of participants used oral antidiabetic drugs combined with lifestyle changes, 37.5% used oral antidiabetics alone, and 18.7% used insulin. Although no statistically significant correlation was found between treatment type and HbA1c values (r=0.41; p>0.05), better glycemic control was observed among oral antidiabetic users. It is concluded that adequate adherence to treatment and non- pharmacological measures is crucial for metabolic control and complication prevention, reinforcing the importance of multidisciplinary follow-up and continuous health education.
