Social housing (HIS) in Brazil consists of dwellings primarily intended for low-income families, with the objective of reducing the housing deficit and improving the population’s living conditions. These housing units are characterized mainly by their reduced cost and optimized use of space, aiming to accommodate the largest possible number of family members within the smallest possible area in a comfortable manner. In this context, the choice of the construction system becomes a decisive factor, as it directly impacts execution time, costs, and the final quality of the building. The presence of steel structures has become increasingly common in civil construction; structures that were previously composed of reinforced concrete and wood have given way to buildings supported by metal frameworks. Some differences between these two construction methods should be highlighted, such as construction time, cost, availability of specialized labor, and materials. This article will carry out an economic feasibility analysis between steel structures (Steel frame) and conventional structures (reinforced concrete) for the construction of social housing, comparing general aspects such as costs, construction time, labor, maintenance. After conducting the research and gathering the data, it was concluded that the immediate construction costs of the conventional system are considerably lower compared to steel frame. However, in the long term, taking maintenance into account, the steel structure system proved to be more advantageous, presenting an alternative for the construction of social interest housing.-
