A LITERATURA INFANTIL PARA BEBÊS EM TURMAS DE BERÇÁRIO DE UM MUNICÍPIO SUL-MATO-GROSSENSE

Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate how children's literature is encouraged in nursery classes at a Early Childhood Education Center in the municipality of Mundo Novo, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The specific objectives of the study were: i) to analyze the collection of books/literary materials for children aged 0 to 2 years at a Early Childhood Education institution; ii) to understand teachers' perceptions of the importance of literature for babies. To achieve these objectives, six observation sessions were held in nursery classes, in addition to an intervention project entitled “Storytelling for babies.” The results of the research showed that children's literature should be encouraged from early childhood education onwards, so that babies and young children have the opportunity to expand their cultural repertoire, participate in reading practices, and become involved in literate culture from an early age. From the observations and interventions, it was possible to ascertain the interaction of babies with books, as well as their active and meaningful experience of these moments. The study proved to be relevant to the field of education, given the lack of research on babies and children's literature, considering that many studies focus on research subjects who are in the literacy phase.
