Mulheres na política institucional: Análise das eleições municipais na cidade de Naviraí/MS de 2016 a 2024

Abstract

ABSTRACT The participation of women in institutional politics in Brazil has been a topic of increasing importance and debate. Despite significant advances over the decades, female representation still faces considerable challenges. The overall goal of the article was to provide a historical reconstruction of women's participation in institutional politics in Brazil. The specific objective was to analyze the participation of women in municipal elections in the city of Naviraí/MS, within the time frame of 2016 to 2024. Up to now, since its emancipation as a municipality in 1963, only one woman has been elected as mayor of Naviraí, MS; Rhaiza Matos was elected in the 2020 elections. Another specific objective was to analyze the representation of women in the City Council of this city. The methodology of the study was based on bibliographic research of a quantitative and qualitative nature, which consisted of a systematic and detailed review of existing publications on participation of women in institutional politics. After the data was collected, a theoretical analysis was performed based on authors who analyze gender inequalities and patriarchalism. The case analyzed was the politics and the underrepresentation of women in political and decision-making positions, specifically in the city of Naviraí MS.
