    <title>Esportes de aventura para pessoas com deficiência visual: percepções</title>
    <link>https://repositorio.ufms.br/handle/123456789/13020</link>
    <description>Título: Esportes de aventura para pessoas com deficiência visual: percepções
Abstract: The social phenomenon known as sport has evolved with the passing of its history, as has&#xD;
happened with issues related to the person with disability. It was, however, with the advent of&#xD;
the 1st and 2nd World War, that these two themes approached. The sport began to be used&#xD;
&#xD;
with tools, initially aimed at physical and psychological rehabilitation and then the re-&#xD;
socialization of war victims. In the meantime, the sport gains new modalities that start to have&#xD;
&#xD;
in the risk element its main challenge. So radical sports are born. However, in this process of&#xD;
evolution of extreme sports also called adventure sports it was up to the disabled to just watch&#xD;
and applaud the great deeds of radical athletes, including people with visual impairment. If for&#xD;
a long time it was believed that visual impairment deprived the one who possessed it of the&#xD;
contact with nature, thus making the visually impaired a strictly urban being, the practice of a&#xD;
sport whose main element is risk was an even greater barrier. Carvalho (2005) reminds us that&#xD;
in adventure sports it is up to each person to determine how far they are willing to go based&#xD;
on their personal values. In the same direction, Custódio (2009) emphasizes that, in the&#xD;
pursuit of our essence, as human beings, we must respect individuality, differences, without&#xD;
imposing stereotypes. Thus, this study aimed to analyze the relationship of people with visual&#xD;
impairment to adventure sports, particularly those practiced in nature. Characterized as a&#xD;
descriptive / exploratory qualitative research, this study presented adventure sports to a group&#xD;
of visually impaired people during 8 months of activities that culminated in the practice of a&#xD;
combination of abseiling, trakking and climbing in a known region Such as the Inferninho&#xD;
Waterfall in Campo Grande / MS. After the practical phase of the proposal, a focus group was&#xD;
held with the participants of the research that allowed us to conclude that the universe of&#xD;
adventure is very present in the daily life of the visually impaired. Elements such as risk,&#xD;
danger, emotion, challenge, overcoming, are present in adventure sports, but are also constant&#xD;
companions of the visually impaired.
