    <summary type="text">Título: EMISSÃO DE CO2 E ESTOQUE DE CARBONO NO SOLO NO DESENVOLVIMENTO INICIAL DE EUCALIPTO COM O USO DE  HIDROGÉIS E IRRIGAÇÃO
Abstract: Understanding the influence of hydrogel use on CO2 emissions and soil carbon stocks during the early development of eucalyptus seedlings is relevant from both environmental and production perspectives. Studies in this field can provide valuable information for developing more sustainable management practices that combine forest productivity with carbon emission mitigation, thereby contributing to more resilient and environmentally responsible production systems. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate *in situ* soil CO2 emissions and initial and final soil carbon stocks during the early development of eucalyptus seedlings subjected to different hydrogel dosages and irrigation levels. For *in situ* soil CO2 emission (FCO2) assessments, the portable EGM-5 system (PP-Systems, Amesbury, USA), model AGA560, was used, with one pipe per experimental pot. A colorimetric method, following the recommendations of Cantarella et al. (2001), was employed to determine initial and final soil carbon stocks. Data were subjected to analysis of variance using Rbio software, and the evaluated variables were analyzed using the Scott-Knott test at a 5% probability level. Subsequently, a canonical variable analysis was performed to examine the interrelationships among CO2 flux, initial and final soil carbon stocks, and the different hydrogel dosages and irrigation levels. The use of hydrogels combined with different irrigation levels significantly influenced CO2 emissions and soil carbon stocks during the early development of eucalyptus seedlings. The hydrogels showed distinct responses regarding CO2 emission dynamics throughout the evaluation period, with behavior dependent on water availability. The cashew gum-based hydrogel (HGC) stood out by providing a higher final soil carbon stock, indicating greater potential for biomass accumulation and carbon retention. Treatments using the commercial hydrogel Hydroplan-EB (HCOM) and the babassu mesocarp-based hydrogel (HMB) exhibited higher CO2 emissions under specific irrigation conditions, particularly with higher irrigation depths. Overall, the interaction between hydrogel and irrigation proved to be a significant factor in the system's carbon dynamics, highlighting the potential of hydrogel use in the sustainable management of eucalyptus seedlings.

Abstract: The use of hydrogels in forest seedling production has gained prominence for increasing soil water retention and mitigating the effects of water deficit, thereby aiding plant establishment under conditions of low water availability. In this context, hydrogels derived from natural polymers offer a sustainable alternative to commercial polyacrylamide-based products. This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of biodegradable hydrogels produced from cashew gum (*Anacardium occidentale*) and babassu mesocarp (*Attalea speciosa*) on the early development of eucalyptus seedlings under varying levels of water availability. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse using a randomized block design in a 3 × 4 factorial arrangement with three replicates, testing two natural hydrogels, one commercial hydrogel, and four water availability levels (0%, 25%, 50%, and 100% of pot water-holding capacity). Parameters evaluated included height, stem diameter, fresh and dry mass of shoots and roots, root volume, and the Dickson Quality Index. Results showed that water availability levels significantly influenced seedling growth; the best performance—characterized by improved biomass accumulation and plant quality—was observed at 50% of the water-holding capacity. The natural hydrogels performed similarly to the commercial hydrogel, with no significant differences among the treatments. It is concluded that hydrogels based on cashew gum and babassu mesocarp have the potential to replace commercial hydrogels in eucalyptus seedling production, offering a biodegradable, lower-cost, and more environmentally sustainable alternative for water management in forest nurseries.

    <summary type="text">Título: SOLUÇÕES BASEADAS NA NATUREZA: ESTUDO DA ARBORIZAÇÃO DAS PRAÇAS DO MUNICÍPIO DE CHAPADÃO DO SUL, MS
Abstract: Urban afforestation plays a fundamental role in the environmental quality of cities, &#xD;
directly influencing thermal comfort, local biodiversity, and the capacity to mitigate &#xD;
greenhouse gas emissions. Urban squares represent spaces for integration between society &#xD;
and the environment, functioning as important reserves of vegetation within the urban &#xD;
fabric. Thus, the objective of this work was to carry out a qualitative and quantitative &#xD;
diagnosis of the trees and shrubs that make up the squares of the municipality of Chapadão &#xD;
do Sul – MS. The study involved a census of arboreal and shrubby individuals with a &#xD;
minimum height of 1.3 m and DBH ≥ 15 cm, recording information on botanical &#xD;
identification, origin, health, and dendrometric dimensions. Diversity was analyzed using &#xD;
the Shannon Index (H′), and carbon stock was calculated using an allometric equation &#xD;
applied to the urban context. A total of 605 individuals were counted, distributed among &#xD;
36 species and 20 botanical families, with Arecaceae being the most frequent family and &#xD;
Lagerstroemia indica (Resedá) the most frequent species. The diversity of the squares &#xD;
varied between moderate and high (H′ = 1.34 to 2.07). Praça 23 de Outubro presented the &#xD;
highest number of individuals and the greatest contribution to carbon stock, with 63.18 &#xD;
tC and 231.89 tCO₂eq. Praça Asa Branca, on the other hand, presented lower diversity &#xD;
and a low carbon stock (0.49 tC). The predominance of some species, mainly exotic ones, &#xD;
reduced the floristic balance in part of the studied areas. The total carbon stock of the &#xD;
squares amounted to 81.74 tC (300.00 tCO₂eq), demonstrating a significant contribution &#xD;
to mitigating urban emissions. The results indicate that urban afforestation in the &#xD;
municipality plays a significant environmental role, but requires diversification and &#xD;
continuous planning to increase ecological resilience and the benefits provided to the &#xD;
population.
