Abstract

This work was developed within the Graduate Program in Environmental Technology, Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul.The study area is the municipality of São Gabriel do Oeste, Mato Grosso do Sul State. The main objective was to identify biodiversity corridors in the region, resulting in two articles for scientific journals and a paper presented at a congress. The first article presents a multitemporal analysis of the land cover of the study area, resulted from automatic supervised classification using Landsat TM images from different dates, also identifying the spectral classes and linking them with the vegetation types proposed by Ribeiro & Walter (1998), in joint analysis with ALOS AVNIR-2 to improve the classification accuracy. With that, two maps were generated with the landcover of 1985 and 2011.The second article, using remote sensing, aimed to identify areas to act as biodiversity corridors, enabling genetic flow between remaining fragments. The fragments with potential for conservation were identified and related to a map of classes land for mechanization and the Map of Priority Areas for Conservation of the Ministry of Environment (MMA/SBF, 2007), resulting in a map letter identification of biodiversity corridors. It was found thus that the geo technologies are effective tools to aid the determination of areas suitable for the implementation of biodiversity corridors, generating an alternative scenario for environmental restoration and improvement of environmental services for the municipality of São Gabriel do Oeste.
