Abstract

This dissertation presents a qualitative research that aimed to analyze the Environmental Education actions developed by Chemistry teachers in public schools in the state network of cities in the North Region of Mato Grosso do Sul, during the Covid-19 pandemic in the year. 2020. The research was based on the conceptions of educator Paulo Freire, who advocates a problematizing education, in which the actions developed in the classroom must be guided by dialogue, always aiming at the formation of conscious subjects for a critical performance in the face of reality where they live. Eleven teachers who taught Chemistry in 2020 in state schools in the North of Mato Grosso do Sul participated in the research. Data were produced through an online questionnaire. The analysis of the results was carried out in accordance with the codification established in the elaboration of the questionnaire, and interpreted according to the link between the theoretical knowledge of Paulo Freire and other works developed in this field of study. The results obtained showed that the teachers did not break the “limit situation”, they are limited in their work with environmental education, the actions are carried out “sometimes” and, in specific moments or contents. Furthermore, based on the results, it is clear that even in the face of a well-established Environmental Education policy, most participants, with postgraduate degrees, stated that they had not had contact with environmental education in their training processes. Considering the fundamental and essential role of Environmental Education in this new stage of reflection and decision-making after the pandemic, it is considered necessary to work on environmental issues in the classroom as a way to sensitize students to the formation of critical citizens, capable of evaluating the quality of life and assume attitudes aimed at protecting and improving their environment.
