Perfil dos acidentes de trânsito com vítimas em Campo Grande - MS

Abstract

Introduction: Trauma is often the result of structural or physiological changes caused by external agents, commonly associated with accidents. Prevention plays a crucial role, as the majority of traumatic deaths and injuries can be avoided. In Brazil, traffic accidents stand out as one of the main causes of trauma, leading to high economic costs and a high number of fatalities. In the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, the frequency of traffic accidents, along with high mortality rates and hospitalizations of motorcyclists, poses significant challenges in the context of road safety. Objective: To identify the profile of traffic accidents with victims in Campo Grande-MS, during the period from 2020 to 2022. Method: A descriptive study with a quantitative approach, conducted through the database of the Military Police Traffic Battalion of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul (BPMtran). Result: The study indicates that the main victims of traffic accidents are in the age group of 30 to 59 years and are predominantly male. Additionally, accidents involving motorcycles and transversal collisions prevail. It is important to note that the majority of these accidents do not result in fatalities, but they do cause sequelae. Temporal analysis did not reveal a clear pattern, although most accidents occurred in the afternoon, with a notable increase during the nighttime on Saturdays. Conclusion: These results highlight the complexity of traffic accidents and the need to implement comprehensive prevention and road safety measures. Furthermore, they emphasize the significant economic impact of these accidents, especially in healthcare costs. Therefore, addressing this challenge is crucial to protect the population, requiring coordinated efforts in education, enforcement, and the promotion of safe behaviors on the roads.
