Abstract: Climate change mitigation is one of the main global challenges, requiring integration&#xD;
between economic sectors and environmental strategies. Carbon sequestration and&#xD;
storage are relevant tools for offsetting carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions, mainly those&#xD;
generated by industrial activities. This study analyzed the municipality of Água Clara,&#xD;
Mato Grosso do Sul, in the years 2007 and 2020, evaluating how changes in land use&#xD;
and occupation influenced the carbon balance. The research adopted a mixed-&#xD;
methods approach, grounded in theoretical foundations, spatial analysis, carbon stock&#xD;
and sequestration estimates using the InVEST model, and the interpretation of&#xD;
territorial dynamics. The study identified variation in accumulated carbon within the&#xD;
municipal territory, correlating the expansion of forestry and other land-use changes&#xD;
with carbon sequestration outcomes. The findings provide support for public policies&#xD;
and territorial management practices aimed at mitigating greenhouse gas (GHG)&#xD;
emissions.

Abstract: Given the recent scenario of urban expansion experienced by the city of Ribas do Rio Pardo (MS) between 2020 and 2024, in the context of the installation of a large pulp mill by the Suzano S.A. corporation, reveals the arrival of a new force that is altering the production of urban space in the small town. In this sense, this work sought to spatialize the changes that occurred in urban land use and coverage, as well as the behavior of land surface temperature in relation to these uses and cover, during this period. To this end, geotechnologies were used to classify satellite images of the urban perimeter manually for land use and cover, and grayscale level conversion for brightness temperature was calculated for the land surface temperature results. The obtained products demonstrated the directions of the urban grid expansion of Ribas do Rio Pardo, accumulating 0.94 km² in these 4 years; also, it highlighted the disparities between the mosaic of urban uses and cover in the old town (north of the highway), with a more consolidated, wooded, and densely built urban grid, while the new town (south of the highway) has a more spread-out building pattern and is less wooded; the obtained land surface temperature data reaffirmed the importance of preserving green areas, which kept their surroundings cooler compared to areas of exposed soil, low vegetation, and sparsely built squares, which reached the highest temperatures. From these results, two complementary conclusions were reached: first, the importance of urban planning, especially in the current context of climate change, given the thermal shields that green areas offer against heat waves; and second, the subjugation of urban space production by the agro-industrial pulp capital, which could lead to conflicts of interest regarding the urban and environmental planning that Ribas do Rio Pardo will produce from now on.

Abstract: El presente trabajo busca mostrar el perfil de los conflictos agrarios en el Mato Grosso do Sul &#xD;
(MS), basado en los Cadernos da CPT. La Comisión Pastoral de la Tierra (CPT) fue creada en &#xD;
1975, en un período en que Brasil atravesaba la Dictadura Militar y los trabajadores rurales, &#xD;
poseedores, peones, indígenas y campesinos estaban viendo vulnerados sus derechos y siendo &#xD;
sometidos a trabajos sin condiciones dignas. La CPT surge entonces como una forma de apoyo &#xD;
a estos pueblos y de dar visibilidad a sus luchas. Los datos documentados en estos Cadernos&#xD;
son de extrema importancia, ya que muestran con hechos cómo es la realidad en el campo &#xD;
brasileño. Como base metodológica, realizamos un análisis bibliográfico de los Cadernos entre &#xD;
los años 2014 y 2024, considerando específicamente el estado de Mato Grosso do Sul (MS). &#xD;
Se utilizaron datos cualitativos (informaciones descriptivas presentes en los Cadernos) y &#xD;
cuantitativos, del propio banco de datos estudiado, además de noticias y entrevistas realizadas &#xD;
por terceros. Con esta información fue posible trazar un perfil de estos conflictos en Mato &#xD;
Grosso do Sul, durante el período analizado, los cuales pueden ocurrir por tierra, agua o trabajo. &#xD;
En Mato Grosso do Sul, específicamente, identificamos una situación marcada por la violencia, &#xD;
principalmente relacionada con la posesión de la tierra, donde ocurre una acción constante de &#xD;
grandes propietarios y, entre sus principales víctimas, los pueblos indígenas.

      <title>ANÁLISE DA VARIABILIDADE ESPACO-TEMPORAL DA PRECIPITAÇÃO NO PANTANAL SUL</title>

Abstract: The present research aims to analyze the spatiotemporal variability of precipitation in the Southern Pantanal during the period from 2000 to 2019, based on data from five meteorological stations located in this region. The stations analyzed were: Porto do Alegre and São Francisco, located in the north; Nhumirim, in the center; and Miranda and Porto Murtinho, in the south. Annual precipitation data were obtained from the National Institute of Meteorology (INMET) and, in the case of the Porto do Alegre station, from the National Water Agency (ANA). These data were compiled in Excel spreadsheets, and subsequently, the statistical technique of regional weighting was applied to correct gaps in the historical series of each station. Next, regional averages (climatological normals) from the Nhumirim station, provided by INMET, as well as regional averages calculated from the historical series itself, were analyzed. Finally, a seasonal analysis was carried out for each year and each meteorological station. The results made it possible to understand and highlight a trend of less rainy years in the Southern Pantanal of Mato Grosso do Sul, with values below regional averages. This trend indicates significant variability in precipitation, mainly during summer and spring seasons that traditionally should present higher rainfall rates.Furthermore, the research demonstrated that the location of meteorological stations exerts a strong influence on the region’s hydrological dynamics. The northern sector, for instance, presents greater water deficiency. It is noteworthy that rainfall is essential for the maintenance of the Pantanal biome, and its scarcity causes imbalances in the local ecosystem.
