Abstract: This article analyzes the socioeconomic and productive profile of the Itaquiraí Settlement Project, located in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. The research aims to understand the impacts of land regularization on living conditions, production organization, and access to public policies by settled families. Through the application of questionnaires, data were collected on the demographic, productive, economic, and social characteristics of the beneficiaries. The findings reveal both the progress made through land titling and the ongoing challenges faced by family farmers. The results highlight the importance of land regularization as a tool for social inclusion and the strengthening of family farming, while also providing insights for improving rural public policies.

Abstract: This article analyzes the socioeconomic profile of the settlers of the Estrela Settlement Project, located in the municipality of Jaraguari, MS, Brazil. The research aimed to identify and analyze the socioeconomic characteristics based on land titling and also to highlight the reality of the beneficiary families, considering aspects such as land tenure situation, sources of income, among others. This is a descriptive, exploratory and quantitative research. Data collection involved the application of a closed questionnaire to the heads of 50 titled family units, and the analyses and interpretations were supported by the descriptive statistics technique. The results revealed that, although titling has promoted advances in terms of legal security and autonomy of the beneficiaries, economic, social and structural challenges still persist. Another point is to highlight that the limitations of the Settlement are not isolated, but reflect a systemic weakness of the Brazilian agrarian reform policy. The research allowed us to infer that land titling, although necessary, must be accompanied by public State policies, that is, continuous and integrative policies aimed at guaranteeing sustainable economic, social, local and rural development in the MS settlements of Brazil.

Abstract: The present article aims to demonstrate the advances in land regularization in Mato Grosso do Sul during the period from 2022 to 2024, through a partnership established between the National Institute for Colonization and Agrarian Reform (INCRA) and the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS), via the project entitled “Development of innovative processes for occupational supervision with the goal of promoting necessary actions for the issuance of land titles in federal settlement projects under the National Program for Agrarian Reform and Land Regularization in the State of Mato Grosso do Sul.”.
In addition to land registration, this initiative fostered the development of innovative methodologies for land regularization, particularly through activities related to teaching, research, and outreach, carried out by UFMS professors, administrative staff, and students. The research employs a qualitative-quantitative approach, utilizing both primary and secondary data collected through fieldwork. The results include the titling of 13,150 lots, the completion of 6,500 on-site inspections, the georeferencing of 3,843 lots, and the analysis of 3,850 pending administrative processes. From the perspective of academic and innovative contributions, 89 academic works were presented at congresses and events, alongside research for the development of new technologies and extension actions, such as legal and healthcare services provided to settlers, among other initiatives. The results demonstrate progress in the realization of land regularization on federal lands in Mato Grosso do Sul.

Abstract: As the farm family business grows, the owner faces the family succession issue. Nevertheless, owners still face the challenge of remaining competitive in the sector. At this point, the professio-nalization of the business through the adoption of corporate governance practices becomes part of the management repertoire. In this context (succession and governance), we must not neglect the legal personality of the enterprise, which is still a challenge for most farm businesses in Brazil. Under the scope of the fundamentals of “Corporate Governance”, “Family Succession”, and “Legal Perso-nality”, this study proposes and discusses these three dimensions for the management of farm bu-sinesses comprehensively. It aims to investigate the relationship between the adoption of corporate governance practices, the stage in the succession process, and the legal personality of farm family businesses. It is a multi-case study with farm businesses from the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. This study was developed using in-depth interviews with a non-probabilistic sample by convenience. The sample comprised six farm businesses. Based on this study’s evidence, we identified a relationship between corporate governance, succession, and the legal personality of farm businesses. Further-more, we underline the need for an integrative analysis, from which it is possible to propose a set of assumptions with theoretical and managerial implications.
