Abstract: This dissertation analyzes the contents and approaches to Agrarian Geography present in the main teaching materials used in state public lower secondary schools (Ensino Fundamental II) in the municipality of Três Lagoas (MS). The study includes textbooks from the National Textbook Program (PNLD) published by Moderna and Saraiva, as well as booklets produced by organizations linked to agribusiness, especially the Agrinho Program. The research is based on the understanding that education constitutes a historically constructed social practice, permeated by ideological, economic, and territorial disputes, and therefore cannot be considered a neutral space. The study adopts a qualitative approach, developing a theoretical and documentary analysis of current curricula and educational legislation, such as the National Curriculum Parameters (PCNs), the National Education Guidelines and Framework Law (LDB), and the National Common Core Curriculum (BNCC). The concentrated, unequal, and exclusionary agrarian structure of Mato Grosso do Sul directly influences the Geography curriculum and teaching practices, contributing to fragmented and, in many cases, depoliticized approaches to the agrarian question. This issue remains one of the central themes of Brazilian Geography, marked by land concentration, the expansion of agribusiness, and the reproduction of social inequalities characteristic of the Brazilian countryside, particularly in the study area of this research—the Bolsão region in southern Mato Grosso do Sul—historically shaped by cattle ranching and, more recently, by the growing presence of silviculture.
The analysis of textbooks revealed significant differences in levels of critical engagement, while the Agrinho Program booklets proved to be aligned with agribusiness interests, which exert strong influence in the eastern region of Mato Grosso do Sul. It is concluded that political and economic influences shape the teaching of Geography in the state public school system; however, within this context, teaching practice can foster resistance and emancipatory pedagogical approaches.

Abstract: Soil loss dynamics on unpaved rural roads (conceptualized here as natural surface roads) represent a key challenge for environmental management in watersheds, especially in regions of agro-industrial expansion. This thesis aimed to assess the relative influence of rainfall erosivity, slope, and management practices on soil loss dynamics on unpaved rural roads and their margins in the Córrego Moeda Watershed, in Três Lagoas, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. The central hypothesis was that the erosive contribution of these roads is influenced by the synergistic interaction of these three factors. The methodology was based on integrating multi-scalar approaches: characterization of the rainfall regime by classifying the historical series (1983-2017) into quantile scenarios ("Very Dry", "Dry", "Normal", "Rainy", and "Very Rainy"); in situ collection of variables related to the factors of the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) in 23 previously established Sample Units; and high-resolution recording of rainfall events (2023) for calculating erosivity (EI30). The results demonstrated that the roads constitute the primary source of sediments in the watershed, with soil losses up to 600 times greater than those in vegetated margins. The slope proved to be a decisive amplifier of the process, while seasonality and the occurrence of extreme events defined critical risk windows. The integrated analysis allowed for the proposition of the conceptual framework of Induced Rectilinear Hydrological Connectivity to explain erosive dynamics, in which roads, as rectilinear anthropogenic elements, connect surface hydraulic flow directly to the drainage network. It is concluded that the hypothesis was confirmed and that the proposed management guidelines, based on the selective disconnection of these flows, offer a viable path for erosion mitigation, providing an analytical model applicable to watersheds with analogous contexts.

Abstract: The city of Ribas do Rio Pardo, in Mato Grosso do Sul, emerges as an emblematic case of accelerated urban space production. The municipality was profoundly reconfigured by the installation of Suzano S.A.'s new pulp mill, the "Cerrado Project," an investment of over 22 billion reais that represents the most recent expansion of agribusiness in the state. The general objective of this work is to analyze the housing issue (2021-2024), understanding it as one of the most revealing manifestations of this territorial restructuring process. The central hypothesis is that the installation of the industrial-agro-export complex in Ribas do Rio Pardo induced a housing crisis with distinctive socio-spatial impacts that go beyond a simple housing deficit. It is argued that this model produced a city that is functional to capital and structurally unequal, the specificity of which is manifested in three central dynamics: the proliferation of temporary housing as a lucrative market niche, the creation of a corporate residential enclave (company town) to control the workforce, and the peripheral allocation of Social Interest Housing. The methodology, based on critical urban geography, combined a literature review, secondary data analysis, and fieldwork with photographic records. The results indicate that the articulated actions of the agents producing the space triggered an intense process of spatial differentiation. The analysis of the housing issue revealed the production of a segmented city: the crisis generated by real estate speculation drove the proliferation of temporary and precarious housing as a profitable market niche; Suzano built an exclusive residential complex for its employees, operating as a modern company town to secure and control its workforce; and, in contrast, Social Interest Housing programs were concentrated in peripheral areas, denying their residents full access to urban services and infrastructure. It is concluded that the hegemonic discourse of "progress" and "development" masks the production of a space that is functional to capital but profoundly unequal for its inhabitants, deepening social contradictions whose most acute expression materializes in the denial of the right to housing and the city for the majority of the population.

Abstract: ABSTRACT

This study conducts an environmental diagnosis of the tree cover in public squares of Três Lagoas-MS, using geotechnologies as tools for analysis and sustainable planning. The general objective is to analyze the importance of urban tree cover in the public squares of Três Lagoas-MS, considering users’ perceptions, thermal comfort, and the challenges related to the maintenance of these green areas, as well as to propose guidelines for their sustainable planning. The specific objectives include: mapping the tree cover of the squares using geotechnologies; investigating the relationship between tree cover and quality of life; proposing guidelines that integrate urban forestry into sustainable urban planning; and reflecting on the importance of urban greenery for environmental sustainability. Free software tools such as QGIS® and Avenza Maps were employed for mapping and spatial analyses, allowing the identification of vegetation cover patterns, tree distribution, and areas with a deficit of greenery, within the context of green areas and their relationship with urban land subdivision. Avenza Maps was used for field data collection with georeferenced accuracy, while QGIS® enabled satellite image processing and the integration of spatial information. Additionally, thermal and phytosanitary diagnoses of trees were carried out with the aid of tools such as PictureThis and thermal cameras. Users’ perceptions were gathered through online questionnaires, aiming to understand the use and appreciation of public squares. The results highlight the strategic role of geotechnologies in environmental planning and in the efficient management of urban tree cover, supporting proposals to integrate greenery into sustainable urban development, thereby promoting social, environmental, and urban benefits.
