Abstract: A riqueza e intensidade de vocalizações de anuros em uma área urbana de Corumbá, Mato Grosso do&#xD;
Sul, Brasil, foram estudadas de fevereiro de 2002 a Janeiro de 2003 em uma poça temporária. Foi utilizado um&#xD;
transecto com quatro pontos de escuta onde foram consideradas as espécies visualizadas e a intensidade das&#xD;
respectivas vocalizações. Foram registradas 16 espécies de quatro famílias: Bufonidae (2), Hylidae (7), Microhylidae&#xD;
(1) e Leptodactylidae (6). O período reprodutivo dessas espécies esteve correlacionado com a estação chuvosa, de&#xD;
dezembro a março (r2 = 0,806, F(1,10) = 41,530 p = 0,002, n = 12). As espécies que apresentaram maior&#xD;
intensidade de vocalização foram Scinax nasicus (Cope, 1862) e Physalaemus albonotatus (Steindachner, 1864), com&#xD;
picos em janeiro. A espécie que apresentou maior período de vocalização foi Leptodactylus fuscus, de setembro a&#xD;
fevereiro. O maior número de espécies e de indivíduos vocalizando ocorreu de 19:00 às 23:00 h.; ABSTRACT - The richness and intensity of vocalization of anurans in urban areas of Corumbá, State of&#xD;
Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, were studied from February 2002 to January 2003 in a secondary forest and&#xD;
surroundings of a temporary pond. We used a transect with four stop sites on which the presence of species and&#xD;
the intensity of vocalization were recorded according to North American Amphibian Monitoring Population&#xD;
index. The turn when vocalization happened was also recorded. We registered 16 species of four families: Bufonidae&#xD;
(2), Hylidae (7), Microhylidae (1), and Leptodactylidae (6). The reproduction of these species was correlated&#xD;
to the rainy season, from December to March (r2 = 0,806, F(1,10) = 41,530 p = 0,002, n = 12). The species&#xD;
that presented greater intensity of vocalization were Scinax nasicus (Cope, 1862) and Physalaemus albonotatus&#xD;
(Steindachner, 1864), with peaks during January. The species that presented the greater period of vocalization was&#xD;
Leptodactylus fuscus (Schneider, 1799), from September to February. The majority of species and individuals vocalized&#xD;
from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Abstract: Antiretroviral therapy has been associated with hyperlipidemia in AIDS patients. This case illustrates the classic metabolic effects associated to the HAART including protease inhibitors and/or stavudine. It was showed that the management of the HAART-associated dyslipidaemia with conventional antihyperlipidemic therapy may fail, being the switching strategy the best option.

    <summary type="text">Título: Paracoccidioidomycosis. Clinical and epidemiological studies of cases observed in the course of 25 years, in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil
Abstract: Paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM) clinical and epidemiological characteristics, uncommon clinical manifestations and association with AIDS in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, were studied, resulting in five reports of cases observed during 25 years (1980-2004) at the University Hospital of the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS). We studied the clinical and epidemiological features of 422 PCM cases attended at the University Hospital of the UFMS. Mean age was 43.4 years old and the man:woman proportion was 10:1. The acute/subacute form (15.6%) presented mainly with lymphadenopathy (95.4%) and the chronic form (86.4%) showed mainly involvement of the lungs (87.3%) and oropharynx (66.4%). Sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim association was used in 90.3% of the patients. Sequelae were observed in 30.3% and death occurred in 7.6% cases. Twelve cases of PCM associated with AIDS were analyzed. The mean age was 36.1 years old and most of the patients had a diagnosis other than PCM as the AIDS-defining illness. Seven patients (58.3%) showed involvement of more than one extra-pulmonary organ. The most often involved organs were: lymph nodes (83.3%), lung (58.3%), skin (50%), and oral mucous membrane (41.6%). Eight patients died with progressive PCM manifestations. These data reinforce that PCM behaves as an opportunistic disease in AIDS patients. The study of 13 cases of neuroPCM demonstrated that paresis (8/13), headache (5/13), and dizziness (4/13) were the most frequent neurological manifestations. Two patients had exclusive lesions in the central nervous system. The neuroimaging diagnosis showed predominance of multiple and round annular-enhancing lesions after contrast injection. Lesions were seen in brain hemispheres (9/13), thalamus (9/13), cerebellum (4/13), brainstem (4/13), and spinal cord (4/13). The majority of cases presented good therapeutic response with sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim. The study of 10 patients with osteoarticular PCM showed that the most frequent clinical manifestations were: pain (10/10), tumor (7/10), and redness (6/10) of the compromised region. Radiographs revealed osteolytic lesions in all patients and the majority presented multiple and bilateral lesions. A case of erythema nodosum associated with PCM was diagnosed for the first time.

    <summary type="text">Título: Desempenho reprodutivo de Nasonia vitripennis Walker (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) em pupas crioconservadas de Chrysomya megacephala Fabricius (Diptera: Calliphoridae): avaliação preliminar
The reproductive performance of Nasonia vitripennis Walker (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) was evaluated on pupae of Chrysomya megacephala Fabricius (Diptera: Calliphoridae) kept at -20ºC, during 77 days, with and no previous passage for liquid nitrogen (NL) by one, three and 15 minutes. Control groups were characterized for fresh pupae hosts. There was one pupa for each parasitoid. The sample of fresh pupae exhibited average of 15 emergent parasitoids / pupa while pupae stored directly at freezer (-20ºC) presented an average of 10 emergent parasitoids / pupa. In the samples exposed at one, three and 15 minutes in NL, accentuated decrease was observed on emergent hymenopterans reproductive performance (: 6.1; 5.5 and 5.7 respectively). The dissection of pupae revealed a large number of immature pteromalid in the groups with liquid nitrogen passage and farate adults in all the groups.
